As I’ve already shared with all of you, not only does this centre exist to support Bible translation, but there are hundreds of people within the centre serving one another with the skills God has given them. Mechanics, electricians, architects, learning assistance teachers, administrators, HR personnel, sound engineers and many other roles.
We are blessed by each others giftings and these acts of service make it possible for us all to remain here on centre, serving together to support the bigger work of Bible translation. Once a year, we are served wholeheartedly by this wonderful woman, Jenny Eirena. She is the choir teacher here and she and her family will be moving back to New Zealand very soon and they will be dearly missed.
She is passionate, creative, hard working and, more than anything, she is a Godly example of Christ-like love and Christ-centered thoughtfulness for the kids in this community. Ben has the privilege of being in her class for these first two terms before she goes and she has spoken so much truth into his life in just a short amount of time. We are so thankful.
Beyond serving the students, Jenny also works hard to involve the community and create a place for adults in the community to share their passions for music. In the VOX concert, that has happened yearly since she arrived, she provides a space for adults to share a song and this year I decided to participate. Originally Ben and I were both going to do a piece but he was too nervous so that left me 🙂 I sang a song from the musical, “Waitress” that I had worked on with a wonderful teacher in Canada and I performed on the stage for the first time in about 20 years (that makes me feel old). I had forgotten how much I loved to sing and perform.
I had forgotten what a joy it was to transform into another character and share the thoughtful words of talented songwriters set to beautiful music. And, thanks to the tireless work of Jenny as choir teacher, coordinator and accompanist, I had the opportunity to work towards a goal, trust God with my nerves and remember that, no matter what I do, that if I do it for His glory and to honour Him, that it will always be beautiful in His sight and that His sight and His opinion of me is all that matters.
We are beyond thankful for this wonderful woman, for her service to this community and for her contagious joy. Jenny Eirena, I have no doubt that you will serve in this way no matter where you go and just know that, as you serve in New Zealand, that we will be missing you here in Ukarumpa.
Would you join me in praying for the Eirena family as they prepare for some big changes? Thank you so much, friends!
